in that particular aviary there are two pairs of cordon bleu's. the pair in the photo's are grizzle pieds and have 3 young. all young appear normal. that is until they molt. it is at that stage their pied markings come through. so it's a bit like a lottery - you can get young with some white or near full white birds.
at one stage i did have set pieds. with set pied what comes out of the nest - is what you get.

thanks for the feedback. it's a bit hard getting better shot of the finches as most are feeding young. i've had to take these through the wire. i will give you some-idea on the pied cock colouring.
these are 4 pieds and 3 young in this aviary. all birds look pretty much the same

Bill
Those are amazing! You have such unique finches. I wish we could have pied cordon blues and pied fire finches here in the U.S. Although, I still love both of my regular rccb's and fires.

I prefer the natural colors too, but that cordon blue is so pretty! Did you breed for pieds on purpose or did the mutation just show up?
