I’m interested in trying to breed Black Face Chestnut Flanked White Zebras.



I’m guessing that there is more too it than just breeding a Black Face Male with a Chestnut Flanked White female. I’ve been trying to do some research on it but have come up empty. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If thats what you have that will work, at least in the second generation. The pairing you stated would likely produce all grey birds half of which should be Blackfaced and all male offspring would be split for CWF. A Blackfaced hen and a CFW Male could give you BF CFW hens in the first generation, thus giving you CFW black faced birds sooner. The Black faced gene is dominant so if either parent is BF then half the offspring should be BF. Do you have any Black Faced Zebras right now? And any CFW's? These 2 genes should be pretty easy to cross. Good luck, Have fun. Hope this helps, Gunnar

No I don't have any BF or CFW's just yet. I've wanted to breed this type for sometime. Lately I've been breeding Charcoal zebras, however currently it's a case of needing more room. Gerard

So are you in Australia? I haven't seen any charcoals in the states. Do you have any pictures?

Yes, I live in Australia, 40 minutes north of Brisbane (Queensland). I don't currently have any photos, but I will get some soon over the next few days to post on the site.

There is very little writen on them that I can find. Current I have both the grey and fawn. Gerard

Here is a picture of one of my fawn Charcoal Zebra's. I have to say that the Grey (hope to post pictures tomorrow) is more stunning. I like the amount of black in the grey, however the fawn is still an interesting bird.





Had some issues with low light in the breeding box, the pictures don't do them justice.

I took these pictures today of my Grey Charcoal zebras. As you can see the difference between the fawn (above photo) and the grey (below). I really like the dark grey/black covering of the male. The female also has interesting markings which makes her different to most female zebras.




The female (right) has a nice markings on her chest.

I don't see why you'd want to bother with Blackfaced when you have such beutiful charcoals. They look great. Gunnar

Yes I have had one, but it's not considered as a true charcoal.
