which mutation would this be??

Post by finchman101 » Sat Oct 15, 2011 9:49 pm

have never had this mutation pop up before and just wondering if anyone has seen it or something like it before. parents are a black face and orange breasted fawn.
what i find weird is that the tips of its wings are fawn and the other looks a silvery colour. any thoughts??

ps. i will get some more pics in a few days when its a bit older. :D

not nowing what is in the parents genes I figure this
if dad is orange breasted fawn and mom is black face you will get

50% Black face (SF) /Orange breasted Fawn Males
50% Black face (SF) Fawn /Orange breasted Females

if mom is fawn orange breast and dad the black face

50% Black face (SF) /Orange breasted Fawn Males
50% Black face (SF) /Orange breasted Females

hi cindy, the mum is the black face and father is the orange breasted fawn which makes me even more confused as none of the babies produced are blackfaced.

yeah thats the thing, i got them from a pet store so no idea at all.
i was just reading that if the black face is mated with the orange breasted fawn that the babies produced where the black would be is changed to orange. could that be the case??

possibly....take another picture in a week and post it on this thread...it should be colored out more....it appears to be a split, this is what efinch said on the Orangebreasted page about splits:
http://www.efinch.com/species/obzeb.htm
"some orange in the white areas of the tail bars next to the black bars"

look at the tail...read on the orange breasted.

efinch wrote in regards to combinaions for orange breast
http://www.efinch.com/species/obzeb.htm

"The Black Face mutation with its extended breast bar and tear mark also adds orange to these areas in combination. Orange Breasted zebras are also combined with the Florida Fancy mutation to produce white birds with lots of orange. Multiple combinations with BB, BF and FF produce some truly outstanding birds that are near white with orange extending over the head and down the belly."

The last sentence sounds like the little one you are holding.

Hey finchman!!

beautiful baby finch you got there!!

I was told that your male finch is Red chested fawn
and the female is possible a charcoal.
But still, I thought charcoals have grey tummy, not buff colored
like your female.

I think I may have had a Zeb similar to the colouration of yours. I adored the beige fringing all over. Will try to post pics of them (had two if I recall) tonight.
