what are the genetics for dilute gouldians

i dont understand what makes a gouldian dilute and if that has any effect on color genes? such as able or not to produce a color.

So that means dilute birds are carrying a yellow gene, so if I bred dilute to yellow or dilute to split I would get yellow babies. Very cool
