Is this normal? i have never seen it before in any of my zebras.all of them have had solid grey feathers..My hen, Lolita has white rimmed grey flight feathers(picture will be posted below).
I don't know if this is normal or what but there is white lining on the edge of the grey feather. she is not pied because it is not the full feather but the edge. I feel dumb, can anyone help? They are having babies in four days, hopefully if it is not normal then Lolita will pass it to the chicks, or at least i hope so. it is pretty cool! even if it is normal!

This is a better picture of her wing, look to the right of the pic, those three flight feathers have a pretty wide band of white compared to the rest..Image
EDIT: lux does not have the white edges:

Neither did Ivy

Just from the wing feathers it looks like she may be a light back....without knowing her true background it is difficult to say.

Refer to efinch and the article on lightbacks....she is not pied as far as visually.

look at Roy's pictures, I also have lightbacks. The edges of the wing feathers take on a bit of a frosted white look.

if she is lightback, she cannot be split. HOWEVER if we have some male babies they can!!! i hope she is, i REALLY like the frosted white rimm feathers
i want it to be more prominent though... maybe?

can you post some pictures of your lightbacks if you have females????

normal grey.
Sometimes the grey color can vary on birds.
Like the fawn mutation can be very light colored
or dark.

here is one lb female from me

and normal grey birds
(there is also one fawn and one lb female in this
picture but all the birds in the middle are NG.)

Wow  He is beautiful :)
where do you edit your pictures? to make the few in the middle stick out?

Also, i know that she is a normal. I was just confused as to what the white edged feathers were. the best picture is the middle one on the original post. I don't believe i saw it on your birds either. not as prominent at least

I didnt edit the picture,
I just have a good camera/lens :)
I can zoom on the birds and only focus on
the bird I want to have in focus.

could be nutritional problem in your bird..
when did you get her?

we got her in june. I doubt it is nutritional, she has LOTS of cuttle bone constantly, we give her kale as well as seeds and kibble. what more could she need? she has sunlight and all...

I once read that sunlight can make the color "fade" away in feahters.
Maybe thats what your seeing in your bird..
but like I sid before could be just he color of her feather.
But she is very cute and a mommy now!
Looking forward to see your chicks!

And thanks! she really is adorable! and SUCH a good mom too! eating her egg food right when i put it in the cage!!
