Update on baby zebs colors...

Post by Oshtay » Mon Mar 19, 2012 8:49 am

A while ago I posted about my Fawn/BC female and Male BC who had 4 babies...all different. Here are a few updated pics now that they are fully feathered. Let me know what you think. I know one male is NG/Fawn.

the light male has me stumped.....no black markings, no chest bars, barely any cheeks..no tale bars. The flanks have little white flecks...but no chestnut or black. What is this little guy??

go to http://zebrafinch.info/colours/default. ... anguage=en

to the right is a brown box with New Pair in one of the categories.

Go to that I believe one of the birds carry a Isabel gene. Click on the mutation combinatio list in the white box, tick of Isabel, Black cheek and Lightback...I do believe this might be why you are seeing silvers. This is just a guess.

I was so suprised by what they produced. I decided to let them go at it again. THey are now incubating 5 eggs expected to hatch the end of this week. My CFW pair are on 6 eggs, and my owls are on 4 eggs. I'm glad I have chickens! going through a lot of eggs

Looks like very pretty silver isabels like Cindy said! Congrats! =D> The darker male offspring is split fawn, the darker hen looks like a dark isabel?

Oshtay, just looked at your BC I believe he is a lightback split.....if you do the combination on the site it kind of explains why you have silvers. BC LB Isabel combination. I don't think you BC is split to Fawn. The other male offspring is a lightback.

Very cool. I was able to get a couple very close up shots of the silver boys chest and cheeks. I won't be able to post them until tomorrow morning. Thanks so much for the input. I checked the 5 eggs they are sitting on now, and none were fertile :(

Dante, it could be split. The father looks lightback and may be carrying split to fawn gene. The mother is fawn as well....so the offspring (mle would either be all visual fawn or splits. My lightback produces (mated with a normal gray) fawn female offspring. If the son of Oshtay's pair is a LB is may also carry that fawn gene. To find out for certain she would need to pair it with a visual fawn (offspring will be fawn) or a NG and the offspring will be gray and fawn females.

For the silver to appear go to the designer part of the calculator
http://zebrafinch.info/colours/default. ... anguage=en
"new female" plug in LB, Isabel, BC you get a silver bird. This pertains to the silver female offspring.
