Have Had A Few Different Zebras
Wanted to show a few photos I have of my zebra finches where they looked a bit...unusual.
Lucky is my first pied zebra finch I've ever owned. There have been one or two occasions where the little white spot on his foreheard looked like a lightning bolt. He used to have crooked tail feathers but not for awhile lately. He also has a strange voice; my dad always thought Lucky's happy song sounds broken. When he makes his usual beeps, it either sounds like a "merp" when it's soft, "ba-deep" when louder.
Snow White was the biggest oddball of all; in fact, her name clearly defined her. Up until her, I did not know there was such a thing as zebra finches that are either all or mostly white. Yes, I have heard of albino zebra finches, but there has yet to be a confirmation. In her case, the only thing that wasn't white were the black stripes on her tail and over the years, her head was looking a bit more silver.
On my last photo, Junior may look like a normal bird, but he does have one abnormality which I think it could likely be a genetic disorder. It is kinda hard to tell but on his right foot, his longest toe never grew out a talon and it's slightly shorter than his other toe. Also, this toe sticks upward when he's in a relaxed pose on a perch. You can say when looking at his toe this way, he's flipping the bird. See the pun there? No offense at all. I still think it's adorable.
I have seen pictures of animals that either have an extra limb or is missing one. Even one time, I saw a lizard with a missing hind leg, which didn't look like it came from an attack. I never saw anything that looked like the leg had a bloody end; it was all closed. It must've felt harder to try to climb up with only three legs but this guy made it possible. I only saw it one time though so dunno what happened to it.

Re: Have Had A Few Different Zebras
Nice birds you have there
I wasn't sure if you realized it or not by your text but your female, Snow Ball is clearly Chestnut flanked white (cfw)
I had one bird, a female in my case like your Junior that was missing all the tonails on one leg and they also seemed shorter. I'm not sure what caused this, the parents were not related so that was not the issue.
I gave the bird away but asked the woman that got her not to breed her.
Did you breed him or get him from someone else?
I at least would not breed a bird showing such genetic disorder, just in case this would pass on to the offspring.

Your Zebras are very pretty. And it sounds like they have unique personalities too. They become so dear to our hearts as we get to know them don't they?

Lucky is a split to pied male...white blotch on head, under the chin and white wing tips.
I agree, any type of physical abnormality in a bird I would pull from any breeding stock and keep as a pet.

They look great.
I have some zebras that I really enjoy their personalities and company. But some others I've had, not so much. It seems like it'* and miss with them.

Very cute birds! You seem to know the personality of each very well. I am the same way, I sit and just watch my birds and get to really know each of them as an individual bird. Really relaxing and always brings a smile to my face some of the antics they do or little projects I see them working on each day.
Snow White looks just like a female I have named Genesis. I always get lots of compliments on her. I call her my Supermodel bird

Re: Have Had A Few Different Zebras
He was born here at home along with his sister, Snow White. The strangest thing about their parents is how Snow White was born white and they weren't at all. Also, neither of them had anything missing like a toe. Since I bought both of the parents at the pet store at separate times, I wouldn't have known there was going to be something awkward with their offspring. There is no way Junior actually gets along with anybody (he even fought with his own mother once) so that breeding part is definitely out of the question. Then now, I have just my two boys. BeeBee was my last female that paired with Lucky. They were inseparable.Ameza wrote:Nice birds you have there![]()

I did not know Snow White was a chestnut flanked white. I learned something new today.

Re: Have Had A Few Different Zebras
Both of Snow White's parents did have normal colors, so I could never tell which half of her lineage gave her the white color. Either her mom or her dad may have had siblings that were white. I really enjoyed the fact I had a white zebra finch after noticing her while she was a few days old. At that time, I had no idea what genders my pair of babies were going to be but I immediately claimed the white one was gonna be female and the other a boy just from the colors alone. As it turned out, my first guesses were correct.
