society split pied??

I had some baby societies fledge. Mom is pied dad not. Anyhow the babies r solid fawn with a little white under their beak on chin area, would this make them split???

Hi Heather,
Pied is a recessive trait. If one parent caries the gene all the offspring inherit it. This makes for a split. Some will show the signs some will not.
In zebras you will see often in splits a little white under the chin, white wing edges and a tiny spot often on the head.

o.k. so they would all be split even if it doesnt show???? is that true in zebras and societies both??

yes, the recessive gene just takes one parent to pass it on to all the young.
