hi all
you might like to look at this h.d.video on my pied cock diamond fire-tail mated to the fawn hen. first nest 3 young flying. you can see the scrawny young one sitting on the perch above the hen. hard to believe these are his/her parents - but they are the only diamonds in the aviary.
if hen split pied. if cock split pied/fawn.
these parents have young again - now about 14 days old. parents eating plenty of green milk millet and lots and lots of live termites.
the pair gave their original nest to the 3 young whilst the cock built new quarter less than a foot away.
construction wise - coarse grass was used for the outer nest about a foot in length. finer/softer grass for the inside liner. once completed it was lined with 50 or more emu feathers for added warmth.

Good news today
Ventured into the aviary to give the pied cock/fawn hen diamonds their daily feed of mixed canary - lebanese cucumber and lettuce plus a big helping of live bush termites and was greeted by the site of 5 healthy young birds. All were perched outside their football size grass nest
As usual they didn't all come out at once. On Monday 1 - Tuesday - 2 none out Wednesday and all out today.
