Need help identifying gouldian

Post by Dayna » Mon Jun 04, 2012 2:02 pm

I have a gouldian that is coloring in and has been keeping me confused for weeks! The longer it goes on the more confusing its getting and even though I know I'm going to have to wait to truly find out what he is I can't wait any longer and wanted to find out some opinions.

I can't tell if he's red head or orange and is he going to be white breast or lilac? I've gone back and forth between his head color since he's started coloring out because it seems to keep changing! One day it looks more red then the next like a really dark vibrant orange. His chest I thought for sure was going to be white because he had molted in all white last year. He got stuck in molt last year so is just fully coloring up this year. So he colored in almost all white chest last year but this year he's got patches of what look to be lilac. I'm going to drive myself loopy pretty quick with going back and forth on what color this guy really is. Someone help, please!

Definitely RH. Looks to be a SFYb, his chin looks gray to me.

A good explanation is found here:
http://www.finchinfo.com/genetics/lady_ ... colors.php
Look at "dilute" aka SFYb and "pastel" aka SFYellowBlue

"Dilute" is SFYb but if your bird is WB or LB and SFYb the body will be visually yellow. PB "dilute" will be visually green.
"Pastel" is SFYellowBlue and with a WB or LB the body will be visually white (or "silver"). PB "pastel" will be visually blue.

Sometimes the young female red heads can look reddish orange but their beaks are red. Orange heads have a light orange beak and no reddish ness to their heads.

http://www.finchinfo.com/genetics/lady_ ... colors.php

DFYellow:
The yellow gene suppresses the expression of the color black on the birds, so any area which would normally be black on a green bird appears white or off-white on a yellow bird.

Heather, you can go to:

http://www.amadinagouldove.cz/gouldian- ... /index.php

Under male:
Put in red or yellow head.
Lilac or white breast, NOT PURPLE BREAST (that gives you a dilute)
SF yellow the first time then DF yellow and see the difference.
