dark color gouldian chick
First I can only see the chicks via my nestcam.
This pair abandoned their prior chick, so I did not go peaking into the nest.
This is a RH-WB-YB male and a RH-PB/WB-YB hen.
Via the nest cam I see 2 light chicks (probably yellow), but I also see a DARK chick.
I ran various split combinations thru the gouldian forcaster, but I did not get any combination to give me a dark (blue or green) offspring. I got silver, but that would be lighter than yellow.
They are scheduled to fledge next week, then I will see what colors the chicks are.

If the male is SFYB, then they can create dilute males and green females.

I agree with Brian, SFYellow will give you green body chicks.
OR if both parents are split to Blue you could get Blue chicks

Re: dark color gouldian chick
If the chick is male and Green bodied then it will have a purple breast because if it has a WB it would be visually Yellow bodied.wellingtoncdm wrote:So that chick would have a purple breast?
If it's a Green hen it could have either White or Purple Breast.
If they are Blue chicks, male or female, could have PB or WB

Re: dark color gouldian chick
I did not think about the M being SF, because he is YELLOW, he does not have that green/yellow color that I thought the SF have.
But by elimination, that makes sense.
So assuming the male is YBSF and neither is split for BB, then the dark chick is either a dilute M or GB hen.

His white breast makes him yellow either way. If it was purple and he was single factor he would be dilute.

Re: dark color gouldian chick
Can you get a picture? If it's really dark I'd go with a normal hen.

Re: dark color gouldian chick
It is so dark that I can barely see it in the nest cam, so I would guess it is a normal. Its light colored siblings are easy to see. Funny, I usually only see its mouth when it begs.
At this stage, when they are ready to fledge, I'm afraid that if I peak, I will scare the chicks out of the nest. So I'll wait to see what color it is.

ARGH
They shoulda fledged on Monday, and they are still in the nest.
With breakfast in bed, why leave???
But with them still in the nest, mom and dad may start another clutch.

Re: dark color gouldian chick
They finally fledged yesterday, 5 days late.
The dark chick is a gray/green.
Not the olive that I've been used to seeing for a normal GB.
I'll try to get a pix to upload.

Re: dark color gouldian chick
Here are the pix when I banded the chick.
The color balance is off, the photos show it as a bit more green than when I looked at it visually.
