CFW and BC pairing?
I have a CFW female paired with a BC male. I've consulted a few genetic calculators and I have a question about the babies. The calculators say the babies will be:
50.0% Females - Gray / Black Cheeked 50.0%
Males - Gray / Black Cheeked , CFW
My question is why can't the male CFWs also be split to BC since it's a recessive gene?
I'm trying to breed BC CFWs. Have to start somewhere and this was the pairing a girlfriend gave to me. Now I'm not sure.

Re: CFW and BC pairing?
CFW is sex link and males carry the gene...the cfw female will give split to CFW males.
The recessive need either a full or split from both parents to make a visual. The way it is written is /BC, CFW it denotes that the bird is split and carries the the BC trait from the father and the CFW trait from the mom. The mom can not pass the CFW trait to the daughters.
If only one parent is a visual (for a recessive gene) the offspring will only be split. Pair a visual BC with a full BC or split to BC female to get all/some offspring that are visual.

NJ. Thank you for the explanation. I sort of understand it. So a color that is paired with a sex linked color can't pass on the recessive coloring to the females, right?
So when they have babies, what would I pair up to get CFW BC?

Re: CFW and BC pairing?
Pair the male offspring with unrelated CFW hens. The males are split to both CFW and BC. Some of those babies will be CFW/BC. Pair any unrelated CFW/BCs together and you will get some BC CFWs. This takes a few generations and several unrelated pairs to get started.
I am doing the same thing with some BC CFWs from Cindy but adding English and/or European birds to add size. I have one huge lightback/CFW and BC male paired with a American sized BC CFW hen that just had 4 chicks fledge. 3 are BC CFW and one is lightback/BC. Hens are never /CFW, only males can be.
Good luck! They are beautiful birds.

In NJ and NY both are not hard to come by.. I suggest setting up anothe pair, just like yours with one CFW and one BC. Pair offspring from both pairs and you have BCCFW

I love my BCCFW, they are quiet and the pairs are all good parents. Good luck with you pairing.
