Type of female Gouldian?

Hi,
I am a first time bird owner so this will be the first of many postings! I bought two gouldian finches a few weeks ago. I will probably post in another section regarding set up, but I am curious about the genetics of the female. The male is a black headed, purple chested, green backed. I assume he would pass only those colors to any offspring. Is that right?
The female has what I would think is the female version (light purple chest, light green back) except that her head is black with a lot of rusty orange on it. Would you consider this a red head or yellow head? Is there a way to figure her genetics?
Thanks! Laura
