CFW male and white female produce babies that are

Post by love4finches » Wed Sep 12, 2012 6:33 pm

Whites all the time. The mom had no teardrops but isn't that pure white 100%. There is a little wash of grey on head but you have to look hard to see it. The father is CFW, no question.

I always wondered why I never got babies that weren't all white. I wanted CFW babies but it just isn't happening.

Now if I am starting to understand genetics, the CFW has the white gene, right? And the mom is white, then they can't have CFW babies since it is sex linked so mom can't be split to CFW, right? Will the male babies be split to CFW? If so, I could get a real CFW female and pair her up with one of my babies and I would get whites and CFWs, right?

I have alot going on here, huh. Sorry to burden the forum but I have no where else to go. Thank you all for all your help, explanations and caring. I am looking forward to the answers to my many questions to my multiple posts. Lyn

This is a link to sex-linked and other zebra mutation genetics. The second link talks about what can be split or not on males/females. Maybe it will help.

helped a whole lot!!! Thank you. So I can get Female CFW BUT...... my babies have the buff stripes on the tail like a CFW but NO teardrops. What does that make the babies. What would you call them if they are all white, no teardrops (CFW females have them) but have the buff striped tale?

There are also CFW (mutation) birds that does not have the tearmark.
How do the male chicks look like?
or your birds are CFW pieds...
or cfw bb, the bb will remove the tearmark.
