I Guess I Don't know A Thing About Java Genetics

When these two laid their first clutch, I posted how I'd be willing to bet that the babies will probably be all white or mostly white. Couldn't have been more wrong! One of the babies is dark (looks like it's going to be a wild type java) and the others are heavily pied! How did this happen? Baby pictures to come soon. Bob

that's awesome bob! :) I have two wild type hens, (one of them is a little pied). I'm sure the babies will be beautiful!

Sorry guys, but the pics are going to have to wait a bit yet. I was going to take some today, then I remembered that the "recommended" nest box I used doesn't have a "swing open" lid. The back comes apart in two halfs and the top half is already out with nesting material sticking out of it. If I remove the bottom, I'll ruin the nest. It shouldn't be too much longer before the venture out. :) I can say that they are nearly fully feathered and are awfully cute. I'm still quite surprised though that they aren't white. I wonder how one does go about getting pure white babies? Bob
