The mom is a fawn hen and the dad a chocolate. The coloring is funky in the pic. The baby pic makes it look like a fawn Iwhich it can't be. It's actually darker than my other fawns and it definately isn't a chocoate or chestnut. Too light for either. So what color does that make this baby?

I get a similar color from my fawn pied and chocolate pied Society's. I call it a chocolate or chestnut dilute. That is not official, but it helps me distinguish the colors.

Deborah,
We have a new color, sort of. It is pretty. Great explanation of what you call the color. We had the same parents parent these babies. What are you going to breed them with? Wonder what color their babies will be.

I have several fledges with that coloring and I'm not sure what they'd go best with, colorwise. I think if a dilute chocolate/chestnut paired with any color, would not really work positively, since chocolate is dominant to chestnut, which are both dominant to fawn. Maybe there is a dilute gene, but I'm not sure. I know we have dilute fawns and they are very pretty. This will be interesting to watch and see if this color is popular.

In the pic, you can see the blending of the chocolate and fawn/chestnut on the fledge to the left (with the marked white pattern) and on the chocolate/dilute? under the fawn-crested

Interesting that you mention this. My society Rusti is clearly fawn pied. So is Dusty, who has a bit more white, BUT... while his color is the same as Rusti on most of him, at the base of his back and up by his neck, it's darker brown, not darker fawn, but sort of brown-ish. You might not even notice it except for when he's next to Rusti, who is not at all darker brown anywhere. Perhaps the simple "chocolate, or chestnut, or fawn" is incomplete, or no longer holds true, and there are other genes involved, modifiers of the original three colors, or else it isn't a simple dominance system after all, so splits and/or combos with other genes (like pied, just for one example) give modifications or combinations of the original three colors.
