Why is my hen plain?

Post by Nanajennie » Sat Jan 26, 2013 11:04 am

I love the way Lulu looks, but I noticed she doesn't have much color. Some light brown in certain light, and sometimes very white and pure.

Is there a name for her type?

By the way, she and Charlie Boy are doing great on this 9th day with 6 eggs! I'm so proud (so far)

Thanks Peeps

Definately a cfw hen ...... Since she is a cfw (gene is sex linked and only the males carry it but a visual cfw hen will give split to cfw male offspring). So providing your male is not hiding a recessive gene this is what you may get

50% Normal Females
50% Normal/Chestnut flanked white Males

a great site to learn about all mutations is efinch.... here is the one on the cfw

The males can be striking!
and you can mix CFW with CCFW.

cfw is lighter - lightbrown tears and lighter markings, lightbrown tailbars
ccfw is darker - darkgrey tears, darker markings, dark grey tailbars

Thank you for the beautiful picture of the CFW's. I agree, Plain was a poor choice of word.

I think my hen Lulu is beautiful, and I hope to see a CFW now that I have seen how unique and beautiful the are.

I cannot thank you all for being so kind and helpful. Learning more and more everyday.... it's amazing....

Blessing to all

Thank you all!
:)

yes, CFW and CCFW is beautiful :)
and I really love the soft creamy color on their wings.

The boys above are father and son, both CCFW/CFW

here is a CCFW female

here is the father when he was young

you can see he is both cfw and ccfw.
cfw because he got black beak and black eyes.
ccfw because he got dark rump.

I hope you will get many CFW´s!!
