GangSter

Greetings!
Cool. How long did it take you to get him to do that?
I'm presently working with my Budgie Freebee, but it's very slow going.

I suggested Food tricks, my trick is try to know what is the favourite food first and then u begin to take off food for hours and then try to feed them in the cage, you need to do that everyday, they will understand that you are not dangerous and you only give food, so if you see any progression try to open the cage and give food with your finger, after that you play with distance, you go far step by step,
It's a simple trick but useful, Hope it will help you to tame your birds.
Good Luck Elena :YMPEACE:

Hi, GangSter, is your goldfinch a male or a female? I have a female that is a rather stubborn case when it comes to taming. She is extremely shy. She comes to my hand and eats from it and sometimes lets me rub her tummy but for the life of her she doesn't want to sit on my hand ; ) Even if she's hungry she won't try to sit on my hand if the food is out of her reach while sitting on a perch. I was wondering if maybe females are more skittish than the males? I've only had her for 3 weeks so it might be that she needs more time to get used to me and start to trust me.

Hello GangSter, hello all,

I love to see tame birds coming freely on human hands. Congratulations GangSter!
On summer I bought an european goldfinch male and a common linnet male. A few weeks later I've got a goldfinch female. All of them were captive bred (they had rings on their feet) and they hatched on July 2015. Unfortunately, I lost the common linnet and the goldfinch female died. Now, I'm trying to tame my goldfinch male. At this moment the bird is quite affraid of direct contact with me, but sometimes it accepts to jump on my hand for a couple of seconds. I discovered that in the evening, before sleeping time, the bird is willing to accept me more than during the rest of the day.
I want to ask you a few questions. Do you know how old was your goldfinch when you started to tame it? And also, do you know if the bird was wild-caught or captive bred? Do you keep the bird alone in the room? (For example, my goldfinch shares the same cage with a pair of society finches.)

Here is a movie with my european finches:

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

Your birds are beautiful, and I love how calm they are around you.

My Canaries, will settle on a plate of greens and start eating even before I put the plate down. However I don't have the patience to sit there with the plate, plus my arm would go numb very quickly with all those fat Canaries sitting in the plate :-D.

I hope you enjoy the Forum, there is a lot of good reading and Information on here, and many wonderful people (all bird lovers) from all around the world.

bliviudaniel Nice to see such tame birds. I mostly work with waxbills, and they tend to stay flighty no matter what. Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com, where you will find many articles on finch care.

Thank you for your words!
I have two goals with my goldfinch now. First is to tame it. Something like GangSter did. In the last 10 years I cared a pair of Budgies (Melopsittacus undulatus) and I loved the way how the male was coming to me when called. I try to repeat this with the goldfinch. And the second goal is to try to breed my goldfinch (of course, I need to get a female first). I bred the budgies, now I'll try with goldfinches.

P.S. I can't post on this forum from my home computer, it says that my IP is on a sort of black list or something...
