'Red Line' on Gouldians

What does it mean if a Gouldian has a red line between the chest color and belly color? I have heard people talk about this as a favorable thing, but I can't get anyone to explain why.

Has anyone else heard of this?

I've heard it called a bloodline as well. Some birds have a deep, red colored line where the chest feathers meet the stomach feathers. Breeders look for the line in birds when choosing good stock to breed with. It's a personal trait to look for though. Some people like it and other don't.

Some birds have a red line of canthaxanthin pigment adjoining the bottom of the purple breast area and was noted as part of the original coloring of the wild Gouldians and has been supposedly been lost over many years of captive breeding. Some of the earliest paintings of wild Gouldians show the presence of a fusion bar.
Personally I like the look of a bird with a fusion bar.

I like the fusion bar as well. I hope it becomes more common in captive bred birds.

lovezebs - I see it on Tiny in that photo.

I personally don't like the look on the green back/purple breast birds.
But I love the look on the yellows with white breast.

I love the fusion bar. I would like to see that in my birds. I think my male has a very faint one. I'm curious how the babies will color out.

Thank you all so much! That article was a great, too.

I am getting a orange head/white breast/yellow back female for my OH/WB/YBsf male. The breeder mentioned the females brother has the red line. Fellow breeders have complimented several of her birds on having the red line, but her being a newer breeder didn't know why this was a good thing to have either. lol

I am glad to have an answer to share with her :)

I am assuming this line is found only in males? I haven't heard or seen of it in females.
