Blue breasted gouldian
Hi I would like to know the name of this gouldian finch mutation and how I can I breed more of this blue breast mutations.

Gouldian finches green, yellow, silver and blue backs.
Long tailed grass finches, diamond firetail finches, swee waxbills, corden bleu, star finches and canaries.

He's melanistic. A good nutritious diet and/or proper lighting should clear that up.

Was this one of your indoor bred gouldian's that you got?
Like Debbie says, lots of direct sunshine, egg food and fresh greens will get his color back to normal (purple breast). If he was an indoor bird and you have him outside at the moment, I would keep a very good eye on him. With these strange temp drops we are having (especially coming up on Saturday), he might battle.

Wow! Is it really that blue? Sometimes a pic doesn't show true color. Is this your bird?

Hi thanks guys for the advice nd replies. Its my first time I heard of melanistic gouldian finch.
I paid about R400 for him thinking that a blue breast is a mutation.

It can happen with any bird, I'm pretty sure a few zebra's that were melanistic have popped up on this board before.
