Please Help ID my Zebra
Hi everyone,
Attached is a picture of my latest addition. The young lady at the store wasn't sure if this Zeb is male/female & couldn't tell me what mutation it is. I'm inclined to think that I have a male as very light patches are visible on the cheeks. I hope I'm not wrong as (he?!) is sharing cage space with two "cinnamon" males!! I must say, he is significantly larger than any of my other finches & has quite a large beak too!
May I ask a favor of all you Zebra experts out there to help me ID gender & mutation of this beautiful bird, and also to explain what mutation "cinnamon" is.
Thank you so much!

I'm inclined to say male He has the brown with white dots on his flanks in addition to the red beak. As far as the mutation I couldn't help you, I'm not so great at genetics.

Re: Please Help ID my Zebra
Thank you Arama, I was leaning toward male as well. Kinda glad my birdie is a HE as his cage buddies names are "Frodo" & "Pippin" & think "Gandulf" is very appropriate for my big boy!
Thanks again for your input!

Re: Please Help ID my Zebra
Looks like a CFW cock. 100% he's a cock due to the flanking and red beak.

Re: Please Help ID my Zebra
You said he is larger so he could be a continental CFW as I believe those are larger, I would say a cock, and a a C. CFW as far as mutation, but I'm still learning Mutations as well. But I believe your "cinnamons" are now referred to as fawn, but check out the brillian Roy's website @ efinch.com Click on Variations in the top menu next to the zebra cock, and he has a table there, you can click on all the different mutations and get photos and info about them all. I believe under fawn it states that they used to be referred to as cinamon.... But again, check for yourself, also could you put pics up of the "cinnamons"? And this bird is a beauty. Funny how he has no tear marks though... but you said you can see some faint cheek patches? Good find no matter what, as he is beautiful!! Good luck with him! I bet he would make beautiful babies!!!!

Re: Please Help ID my Zebra
lnlovesorange - thank you so much! I've did quite a bit of research before seeing your response & based on pics & descriptions I also think Gandulf is a Continental CFW. He is quite different from my other little treasures in the way he sounds, looks & behaves & I'm really enjoying him! I'd love to get him a C CFW "companion" & hope they make plenty babies! .
As for my "Cinnamons", the little guy on the left is Pippin & I'm certain he is a Fawn. The little guy on the right (& second pic) is Frodo whom I think may be a Fawn as well but I'm not too sure. What do you think?
PS - I don't know how to flip the pics. Sorry about that!

Nicci_M with the pictures being sideways: are on an iPhone or Samsung? If so, go on edit photo, and tilt your phone the way you would like. Did this help?

delray - I'm using my iPad in the horizontal position. Not sure if this is relevant, but the pictures were taken with my iPhone. I'll flip my iPad & try again. Thanks, delray!

Re: Please Help ID my Zebra
Not fawn since your bird still has full strength black markings... there is no cinnamon mutation in zebras.

Re: Please Help ID my Zebra
cindy, thank you so much for identifying my boys. In all honesty, I looked at & read the descriptions of all the mutations on the site but could still not identify them. I know this makes it sound as though I'm a little "dense" but I guess I may have become confused & overwhelmed with all characteristics for each mutation that I couldn't distinguish one from the other!
Thank you again & I appreciate your help.
