Thnx cindy i'll be much obliged. Wth your knowledge and guidance i hope i will breed some fantastic finches.
Wud u recommend removing the following birds from my stock?? Or do you see some potential in them to breed great mutations.
1. Light back split to BB ( gud size)

as mentioned earlier, the pairing I suggested and how to pair young from your own stock will work, later adding new bloodlines of the mutations I mentioned.

My choice to breed to the BB OB would be a double factor FF OBBB or a FF OB/bb

Ok will try to find a hen youve mentioned, but cindy and others i am back with another ID request :p...
Today i inspected the box of my BB female and BC split pied male's nest. They have produced only one chick(fledgeling). I fell in love with her/him instantly :). Now its time for some pix.first the parents for reference:

And
IMG_20150430_100757.jpg
Now the chick....

IMG_20150502_085044.jpg
What is its gender??
And did i have a mutation??

Remind you that he/she is quite big comparatively to some other fledgelings in the colony.

Thnx in advance.

I have already ID'd the adults, the baby n your hand is a Fawn BB.... you have to wait until it matures and molts out to see if it is male or female. They take a while to color out, if male you will see orange cheeks coming in and a breast bar. Tail markings indicate full BB. Some mutation you can not tell sex right away and you need to patiently let them color out. Once the beak is orange you will definitely know by then what sex it is.

It may also be BF but you will be unable to tell for certain since the area between the tear and cheek is white, the same as the neck area. Only way to tell is later breed it to a non BF and if you get BF then you know the bird is a BF. they can not be split to BF, it is dominant.

the Florida Fancy hen... looks like the top feathers on the tail are growing in. Florida silvers carry more silver in the bodies http://www.efinch.com/species/ffzeb.htm

Recessive splits do not always show markers

mutation guides http://www.efinch.com/varieties.htm

Typo on picture of the one with.... Florida Fancy Orange Brest/Black breast should read Florida Fancy Orange Breast/Black Breast
