Question about gouldian fledglings

Post by carcoozie » Thu Jun 25, 2015 8:58 am

Hello all! I have 2 adult gouldians that had 2 babies. Mom is yellow back and dad is green back. Of the babies, one has an olive green back while the other is lighter and kind of splotchy? Do you think that means I have a male and a female? Since all females would be green and males would be dilute, correct? Thanks! And dad is an orange (yellow) head and mom is genetically black (no color showing) so all the babies would be red heads?

Unless there are hidden genes you are right in that you will get male SF Pastel and female Green. Also a YH male and BH hen will only produce RH/BH/YH males and RH/YH hens.

debbie276, thank you!
So do you think it is a good possibility that the darker back is a girl and the lighter is a boy? Or is it too soon to tell (they are 5 weeks today)

:D
