Could this be a new mutation?

Post by ROOKIEBREEDER » Tue Jul 28, 2015 10:41 pm

My pair of zebras had another clutch this year and raised two to fledgling but this fledgling has a very different coloration then any finch I have seen.It seems to have a thin line of black on the head.

ROOKIEBREEDER

Not an expert on Zebras, so can't help you there.

It will be interesting to see how he colors up after he molts.

You could always send photos to Roy Beckham at Roy@eFinch.com, he is an expert on Zebra mutations.

First where are you located and what are the parent, please post their pictures....

I have seen young with line lines later molt out to white in that area

the area I am speaking of is the white between the eye and the beak... a picture of the parents front and back will help determine what mutations you may have in your young bird. Are either of the parent BC (black cheek) or split to BC? The top of the head does not look out of the ordinary but the tears are thick and appear to be feathering black into the cheek area.

It is very difficult to determine what a fledgling will color based on baby colors, you usually have to wait to see due to certain ways combinations o mutations effect each other.
