Is my juvenile gouldian fully colored out?
Hi all! I am wondering if my male juvenile has colored up fully? His sister (black head) has almost completely finished, just a few pin feathers left. I have included a picture of mom, dad and the siblings. I knew he would be dilute but would his chest be more purple? I'm wondering if he's stuck or if that's what he'll look like - which I'm fine with? Just curious. Thank you!

Sorry - I guess these photos aren't the best and I posted from my phone so they're sideways

Which one is he?
Some birds take considerably longer than others to fully molt.
Some brighter pictures would make it easier to see

Really hard to see with the light behind them.
Maybe debbie will be able to make it out.
For a better picture, turn your room light on, or place a lamp in front of the flight.
What a sweet family.

He doesn't look fully molted yet but the picture is very dark and hard to see clearly. Are you positive he is a he?

Here is a hopefully better photo. He has a little purple under his wings and a spot a little higher. I think he has a black head cause he has no black in his tail or wings either. Debbie, he sings.

Definitely still in juvie colors. His beak looks yellow tipped which means he is genetically a YH . If his head turns out to be black he's a BH YTB, BlackHead YellowTippedBeak. He will become much more colorful as time goes by and he finished his molt.
Good luck

What a doll
.
He is looking at you, like-- Wha what are you doing with that thing?--
I second what Debbie says. This youngster is still not wearing his adult colours.
Regarding sideways pictures with your phone.
Try aiming your phone width wise, not length wise. I think it will work better that way. |____| this way, not this way |_| if that makes any sense

Thank you both for the replies! I look forward to him coloring out.
Since mom is black head and dad is yellow head, would he always be visually a black head? (Or in this case pale, as he is dilute?) Or is there a possibility he could be yellow head?
Elana - thanks for the picture advice!!

Re: Is my juvenile gouldian fully colored out?
If it is yellow then she is genetically a YH so she is a BH YTB
Yellow head (YH) is an autosomal recessive trait, but also requires at least one red head gene to be present in order to be expressed. If two yellow head genes are present on a bird that has no red head genes (and instead has black head genes), the bird will have a black head with a yellow tipped beak (YTB). This occurs because the bird is genetically a yellow headed bird, but it cannot express the yellow color because the yellow gene depends on the red head gene for expression, and the red head gene is not there.
All male chicks will be YH/BH and all hens will be YH
