Straw Headed Blue Gouldian with discolored head

Hello everyone,

I purchased 2 straw (white) headed, white breasted Blue gouldian cocks. I had them shipped to me. The one male is beautiful. His head color is pure white.

The other one has white and grey spots all over his head. At first glance I thought maybe he was not done molting. Then I really looked him over good and realized he had no pin feather. I am afraid he already molted and this was the result. He was born in February.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why this happened. Will he have more of a white head after his next molt. Should I breed him or will the babies likely be the same.

Please let me know if you have any advice.

It's possible he is 'stuck' in his moult.

I have a male hatched in December 2007 BH/WB/BB (black head, white breasted, blue back) Gouldian who still isn't done moulting and has very few pins. My guy is stuck in his moult. I have others hatched April 30th, 2008 and are finished their moult. Go figure. I also have a young female BH/WB/NB whom I purchased 'stuck' in a moult in September 2007. She was hatched in December 2006 and just finished colouring up completely and beautifully 2 weeks ago!

I think your guy is probably stuck in a moult and will finish when he goes through his next moult.

I agree with L. I've bought several young normal (green back) gouldians who have grey spots on their heads. The spots disappear with the next molt.
