True white or white pied?
I have recently read that there are white pied zebra finches that actually aren't truly white but they have those pied markings that dont show the other markings ... I was wondering how to tell a difference between a true white and a pied white...

Re: True white or white pied?
I have seen a gray coloration on my males longest wingfeather and the nearest feathers and I have read that , that is a sign of a true white? Correct?

Re: True white or white pied?
you can only tell after you bred the bird... both white and all white pied are recessive. If you breed the bird to a non pied carrying bird and you get markers for pied (white wing edges, white under the chin, white spots on the top of the head) then it confirms pied in the parent. Keep in mind though some splits do not always show markers.
The white mutation is difficult to find, most have been mixed with pied because the two mutations can look the same.... there is often confusion between CFW and all white pied, often all white pied is bought thinking it is a CFW hen (bird's backgrounds being unknown, example from a broker or store). With all white pied you never know what is hidden (if background is unknown) until you breed it.
