Nodules on these Gouldians....

Post by WesKnapp » Sat Apr 30, 2016 12:40 pm

Can you tell anything from the nodule colors in these pictures? Or feathers? I'm not sure if the mom is split blue but I know the dad is. both green.

I wasn't sure if people would be able to zoom in on the picture I uploaded but here's a closer look at their feather color. Two definitely look subtly different than the obvious green one in the back....does it matter?

I don't know much about Gouldians, but I just wanted to say that these babies look wonderful, very healthy! Your first photos can be enlarged by clicking on them, then hitting the little magnifying button on the photo. Makes the pictures really big.

Split is not visual. Vary in body green color is because of the age (the few days in difference)

Hi,

From what i have read and seen, i would say both the babies with the white middle nodules will be blue backed and the other one would be green backed,

thanks

I probably should have just waited one more day for the feathers to come out a bit more. 2 blues and 1 green....woohooo.

Awesome odds, 2 out of 3 blue. You can tell a blue baby from quite young. They have white middle nodule (which is probably more noticeable in person without the reflection of the camera flash) while normals have a yellow nodule in the middle.

also the skin colour is a bit different, but that is not as easy to tell apart as the nodule colouring.
Lovely looking clutch you have there.

thanks. I didn't even think the mom could have been split blue, so I was pleasantly surprised, and you're right....crazy odds there!

WesKnapp

My BB male and my GB Split blue female produce offspring that all have white middle nodes, on the BB babies as well as the GB babies. Of course their GB offspring are all Green split blues.

My normal GB pair offspring all have bright yellow nodes.

I dont know if that is typical for all green split blue babies to have white nodes. But it is standard for my green/ blue babies with this pair.

** all their babies are born very pale
