Dirty head?

Post by Airlyn » Tue Aug 02, 2016 11:07 pm

What is a dirty head in Gouldians? I have a youngster that is red head but with a lot of black. Is that a dirty head?
Should I find the parents different mates?
The cock is rh/pc/gb
The hen is bh/wc/ gb
Thank you

I am going to find the parents new mates. The bird's head color is looking faulty. It isn't red and it isn't orange. I'll post a pic as soon as I can.
These birds sure can get attached to each other. I had separated the parents during moult. I just put them back together but haven't given them a nest.
He started hopping like crazy as soon as he saw her. She started hopping right back. It was hilarious!
I didn't know females would do the mating dance too.

A 'dirty head' is cited as one indication of a female.
These are red or YH with spots of black on a head that is generally not as brilliant a red or orange as that of a male.
How old? I assume it has not reached adult molt yet.
