It seems I have 1 Euro grey male, 1 chocolate self male, and 2 black brown females. The Euro grey male is small compared to the larger black brown female (13.59 grams and 18.82 grams, respectively), even though the male chocolate self appears smaller than any of the other societies (16.74 grams).

Here are some photos; I'll have to get some better ones of the male chocolate and large female Euro Black Brown.

The Euro Gray and Euro Black Brown look more like Euro Influenced selfs.

Thank you. The one female I got a terrible picture of looks to have more Euro, as she is larger and darker and does not present as much scalloping on the breast as the others.

Oops, I should have clarified; I was talking about scalloping on the breast, not belly. She hasn't got many light feather edges on her breast, whereas belly markings are similar to the other brown female, but slightly more obvious. I should just get another photo of her...

Here we go. She looks darker and larger than the other chocolates, but has a cream base color to her underside; I suppose this would be considered a fault.

It's a trick I learned on lizards; unfortunately it doesn't work as well or long on birds. Gently flip them over, point their head up, fold their limbs close to their body without straining the joints, and hold them like that for a few seconds. They will act stunned, allowing one to let go and snap some quick photos. Birds stay like that for ten seconds max, but a lizard may remain on its back for up to five minutes. I'm not sure why it works. Once they start to turn their heads as the female society in the upper post was, they usually flip over within no time.
If only I could find the photo of several "stunned" lizards I took several years ago...

Is she dead? Darker And larger if GOOD. Belly pattern not good. I would breed to a large bird with good pattern to see if you can get nice large babies with good patternIcearstorm wrote: wilkifam

I'll try that. Problem is, I've only seen four selfs and Euro x selfs out of the several hundred society finches that were on sale; it seems 95% of these birds are chocolate pied where I am.

That is a super cool trick.
I've had birds lay like that in my hand, but never on another surface.
I've had some play completel dead, after I've banded them or had to trim their nails. They would lay like that in my hand even after I placed my hand inside the flight again, with all the other birds screaming: "Oh no, she killed him!!!" until I suddenly lower my hand, then they spring back to life, and then it's : " He's alive, it's a MIRACLE!!!"

That could be a possibility; I'll keep that in mind. I first need to get rid of half my birds to make some room.
