Pied and Crested

Hello masters!

Is it possible to get a pied or crested with an eggs from a pair without pied or crested?

Or pied and crested zebra finches will only came from those pair who is pied or crested?

I imagine zebras are like societies in that both pied and crested are dominant. Then the only way to get pied or crested offpring would be from a genetic mutation, which would be extremely unlikely. Some pied individuals may look exactly like normals (in this case pied acts as recessive, but is still inherits like it's dominant, which is unusual); this is also rare, but breeding one bird with a hidden pied gene with a normal would likely produce 25% (if parent is homogeneous/ all pied) or 50% (if parent is heterogeneous/ split to normal) pied offspring. This establishes the pied allele as dominant, otherwise two birds with a pied allele would be needed to produce pied offspring.
So in short, no, probably not.

eFinch says crests are dominant (so the answer is no) and pied is recessive (so yes, but only if both the parents are heterogeneous/ split to pied, in which 25% of the offspring would be pied). The way it is described makes me think pied is codominant, in which being split makes the bird have some characteristics as a homozygous (two of the same alleles) pied bird, but with less white patches.

in Europe if a Grey or fawn bird has any white drop on his feathers then it's considerate as pied and split to pied is not displaying any of white , i've remarked here(us and Canada) that white feathers in wings is considerate as /pied for euro is full pied.
so pied varies from a simple white drop on feather to full white bird :not pure white
pied is recessive to have a pied at least parents should be split to pied
and in this case 1 from 4 babies should be pied
crest is dominant so mathematically 1 from 2 babies should be crested
so if
pure crested grey x pure grey pied the offspring are
50% grey /pied
50% grey crested /pied
the sex doesn't matter as those mutations aren't sexlinked
