hi
hum i could say a bad one or combo of saddleback and pied , the perfect saddleback should have a clear white wings and clear white head. we can see a sign of the pied factor in tear mark
the best way to correct the fault is to mate him with a pure white .
out of the post btw #-o a BF COULD it BE, any bf in his ascender .
did u try to mate him with your fawn hen which gives u the white saddleback offspring ?

Hi there I did mate him to my fawn hen twice but then stopped when in realised they could be related as they came from same place! Yeah I think he is just pied but want to be sure. Yes there are a few spots on his face. What's a bf again?

Also when I mated him to the fawn I never got any saddle back offspring but I did get pied, which means he's a pied...?

bf mean blackface why i ask cuze the area between tear mark and the beak loks like to be balck but worked by the pied factor .
he could be a saddleback x pied outcome, as i said the best way to correct the faulty head and wings, is to mate him to white hen.
BTW in some European countries, saddleback ,caped, and no pure white are considerate as pied variants .
bellow a perfect saddleback

Ok thank you, I will definitely have to mate him to a white hen. Is it ok to mate him to white hen with slight smudge or does it have to be completely white?

to much color ine the back and wing and not necessary a marked tail bar , as i said ur cok is pied saddleback , this combo avoid to have a great pied nor a great saddleback , about the white hen , yeah if u can put him with a white is ok . ur cock is also fawn so if ur hen is white with slight smudged in the back it could be very interesting cuze she could be white split saddleback (/saddleback fawn)
in this case the outcomes will be without considering the sexlinked mutation (fawn) and the recessive pied

50% saddle back
50% white /saddleback
can u please put a pic of the hen

My female is fawn but the male is white with slight brown smudge. Did you want a pic of fawn hen? I also have a normal hen who is incubation eggs at the moment. Also own of my baby finches has a very large patch of brown on its back. I haven't included it in pics tho as it has half a top beak due to two many babies in the nest.

Here's my white male with brown smudges. His brown smudge seems to have kind of faded out. ( the dad is the one with red beak, all the others are his babies )
