Is this Florida Fancy?

Post by Flight Feathers » Mon Jan 22, 2018 2:14 am

Hi there,
Here is one my friends young zebra finches. We are just wondering if it's possibly Florida fancy because if it was CFW it should definitely have had tear lines by now. Any help is muchly appreciated!

Also I think CFW is meant to have black claws but I don't think this one has black claws.

Why not just wait a few weeks? Then you'll know :D .

I am not aware of CFW's having black claws.

No it is not.... looks like it is a CFW but also split to pied, see the white wing edges, the bird also has a washed out partial tear drop... pied has removed some of it.

FF have a horn colored beak, your bird has a black beak typical of the CFW.

when asking what mutations a bird is it is always helpful to see the pictures of the mom and dad, there are markers for recessive genes/mutations that can show in feathers for splits also.... what are mom and dad?

Okay thank you very much! I did notice that it was split to pied and did wonder if pied has removed the tear lines. I'm pretty sure the mother is a normal gray and the father is a fawn. And the fathers parents is my fawn hen split to pied and my black face pied male.

It doesn't have much grey on its head, is this normal?

yes, males tend not to show as much dusting on the head like female off spring... that can have a little to none... hens can have a dusting of gray that ranges light to dark that goes from the top of the head to the nape of the neck

What are the parents?

This CFW is a hen. The mother is a normal and cannot be split for sex links gene. The father is split for CFW tho as his father was split for CFW, so I'd be guessing the gene would be passed down.

I believe the Pied to possibly have removed some of the grey on head. Also all the CFW in your pics look black cheeked ??
