Can females carry pied without a visual split?

So I'm just wondering can female zebra finches carry the pied gene without visually being split to it- like having white wing tips etc. And do both parents have to either be pied/split to pied/carry pied to produce pied offspring? And if one parent carries the pied gene and the other does not does this mean there will be no pied babies? Thanks!

Flight Feathers I guess if one of the parents was white and one was normal and the chicks came out grey for some reason they wud carry a pied gene right ??

Well grey is dominant so if one of the parents was grey then you'd definitely get some gray because of it being dominant. Not sure if that would be a pied gene...

The pied gene is recessive and also I'm pretty sure it most be shown in both parents but I'm not 100% on this.

Hi guys
Pied is recessive and not necessary that bird carrying that gene must shown any marks. they could be totaly hiden, and that's the sense of the Word recessive

Greyxgreypied =greySplit for pied same thing if u say grey carrying pied
Greyxgrey/pied= grey and grey/pied
Grey/piedxgrey/pied=grey, grey/pied and grey pied
Grey piedxgrey/pied=grey pied and grey/pied
Grey pied x grey pied =grey pied

So to be shown at least both parents should carry the gene mean both split for pied at least, you can also have same result(shown) if one parents is mutant and other is split for pied, or both pied.

Okay thanks! So it won't be shown only carried, if only one parent carries it?

Flight Feathers yeh I was just taking a wild guess I thought pied was just when they have one white patent and then one normal grey
