Mutation help
Hey guys,
I got this different looking fawn that I've never seen before. I've had birds that have produced many fawns, but this one seems to have cheek patches. I was wondering if anyone thinks something else is going on.

Re: Mutation help
This is a normal gray light back zebra finch. (Not a fawn) but I definitely think yours is a Fawn Lightback.

Re: Mutation help
Thanks for the input. I posted on Facebook and was getting a couple people saying that it was a fawn cheek. I can't find any good pictures of that mutation, much less a fawn cheek on a fawn bird, so it can be confusing. This is especially true when this pops up once from a pair that I've bred multiple times. I think that I'll keep her and find a nice male in my group to pair her with.

Re: Mutation help
Yes could be fawn cheek or grey cheek. There should be pics of these colors on efinch. The pale cheek patch does make it appear somewhat light back but then you could be right about fawn cheek. Don’t think an ob split would make it look like that? Ob will give it orange in the tail bars and also reduce the tear mark.Raleighwheels wrote: Thanks for the input. Re: Mutation help
hi Raleighwheels
i do not agree with inputs
i don't think that hen is Light back , nor split to OB, and of cose not A fawn cheek Why ?
for a fawn light back her belly is to much cream , a light back should have a clean white belly same as the picture that Flight Feathers had upload , we can see clearly the white belly in that male.
for the OB mutation the solid marks for, should be thick tear drop and white dots in the flanks which are absent , by the way hens with marked cheek patch exists in both colors fawn and gey and that doesn't mean it is a ob or /ob .
for cheeked mutations we can see clearly that girl is non from those mutations

Flight Feathers Raleighwheels Fraza Blackzeb
lets compare that hen with two possibilities and u can say which one is the best in the left we can see a LB FAWN Big difference isn't it ?
in the right , the head color is the same do you agreed? it looks too Grey for a fawn or lb fawn ?
same for the belly , too much cream for a lb ?
i would say it's a grey Agate .
for the cheek patches, still hesitate, if there're no shadow dots in the flanks! i would say definitely not OB nor /OB

In the bottom , left side in that picture the hen is a light back fawn as you can see the belly is really white which makes her different from regular fawn hen , the white belly is the signature of LB .
in the right bottom side is a Grey Agate hen .
