My male societies got a bit territorial when their mates were incubating, but tolerated other society finches near their nest once the eggs hatched.

When I had the fawn pied females, no one was territorial. I imagine it was because the females were bonded to each other, so neither of the males were bonded to them.

Icearstorm yea well I can agree on that when the chicks have hatched I forgot to say they calm down but for some reason they are still not aloud in the nest

Congrats on the eggs!

Unfortunately the ino's parents' phenotypes don't clear anything up, aside from saying that the female ino is either fawn or split for fawn. I'd guess she's also pied, though it's not definitive (there's a chance the father was single-factor pied and the mother a self).

My societies have laid 4eggs and all are fertile
Idon't excpect that ratio as they already start sitting and never seen them mating

My society finches only mate when they're hiding in a nest or other area with cover; maybe yours are similar.

Yeah, it's odd. Societies are supposed to be some of the horniest finches, but mine are somewhat reluctant to breed. Or at least the female is; the males will mate with each other in public.

Icearstorm haha yep the males just don’t care a few weeks ago I was locked outside because I couldn’t find my keys and I watched coco sing for 2 hours, 2 WHOLE HOURS !! Till he eventually won over a female then they bred haha

But no eggs
Also another pair I watched breed but yet again no eggs ?? I think it’s because they still have limpy to care for and the other I think it’s because they are sitting on foster eggs

Oh haha I don’t think mine sing for quite that long although they do sing quite a bit.

Yeah mine have been nest building for so long but they’re still not incubating! My zebbies would have had babies in this time! Guess I’ve just got to be patient tho.

Flight Feathers yep the thing is that there is also two males with a female and society’s are picky like this they don’t just breed as fast as zebbies, they choose one mate and then have a companion one in the nest so hopefully she hurry’s up lol

Wow, that's a lot of singing. My younger society finches would sing almost all day when they were learning, but the adults are typically more quiet.

My pair mated around a week ago, but the female didn't lay eggs. I suppose it's a good thing, because there might not be enough time for them to breed before I move.
