So, my mutual on instagram, who I'm buying 2 zebbies from had a female zebra finch who recently died from a heart attack.

The strange thing about her is that she has a black chest bar, which she's had ever since she grew in her adult feathers. Her mother is a marked white and father is gray, so the males tend to have some white feathers, which she had too. She never sung though, or showed any male behaviour. I am curious as to what y'all think is going on here.

I attached some pics of her below.

OliwiaMoriarti this can happen she was probably split for black breast or carried the gene I have a bc/bb and she has this bar aswell as the black cheeks even tho she’s a hen and doesn’t sing

That's really interesting. What about the white wing tips? None of her sisters have any white feathers, only the males came out with white wing tips so far, which I'm guessing is caused by them carrying the gene from their mother (marked white).

OliwiaMoriarti yeah it will be the pied trait I had one once that had a white under feather she had chicks with a bc male and her chicks grew half white half grey I didn’t realise till I opened up her wings and spotted the one white feather, meaning she was pied

hi as said by Fraza The smudged breast is a mark for Blackcheeck split for wich is confirmed with that thick teardrop , the white feather is considred in EU as pied so parents or at least one from could split for pied .
the Blackbreast split for in the hen are hourglass shape , thin tear drop
