Lutino Blue Faced

Post by Matt » Sun Dec 14, 2008 9:41 pm

While I was offloading surplus birds on the weekend to a dealer, he had a nice hen Lutino Blue Faced Parrot Finch which I couldn't resist. I have a few spare cock birds so I will be mating her with a normal. I am assuming this mutation is sex linked recessive. If so my pairing should produce 50% split cocks, 25% lutino hens and 25% normal hens. Is this correct?
Has anyone on here ever kept/bred this mutation. Are they even available in other parts of the world?

I don't have Parrot Finches but she sounds interesting! Do you have any pics of her yet?

Don't have any pics yet, but I promise to put some up sometime over the christmas break. Also found that I can't produce any Lutinos without the cock being a split. So I'm now on the lookout for a split cock bird.

Hey Matt...Lutino in the Blue Faced Parrot Finch is sex linked recessive. The Lutino female will need to be matched with a Normal/Lutino male to get 50% Lut and 50% Norm females (female are not split), and 50% Lut and 50% Norm/Lut males (males can be split) -- just like the Yellow Gouldian (US yellow variety - the Australian is just straight recessive!)
Cheers
Harry
