Normal male producing a fawn female?

I think the parents are a normal male and a fawn female.
We think they have produced 2 fawn males, 1 fawn female and 1 white female. However my boyfriend on looking up zebra finch genetics on the internet believes that it is not possible for a normal male to produce a female fawn. Is is possible that the female fawn offspring may actually be male?

For Zebra finches, one good indication of gender is the intensity of the beak colour. Orange is female and a deeper orange or even reddish colour is male.

Visually normal cocks can in actual fact produce fawn hens; if the male is genetically split for fawn you can expect half of all hens produced to be fawn because of the sex-linked inheritance mode of the fawn mutation.
