I have some juvies coloring up and I was wondering what this bird is. The first picture is him with his siblings. They are very yellow and he is very white. He looks like he has an orange head and purple breast. He sings so, he is a he. His parents are both yellow with purple breasts and one has a red head and the hen has an orange head.
Are yellow back considered pastel? or dilute.... I get so confused... then there is single and double factor.... oh gosh.

He looks like a Silver! It sounds like your two yellow parents must also both be /Blue!

Ok so how do I get a blue back?

This male is genetically DF Yellow + Blue Bodied, which means you can't get a visual blue back from him (paired to a normal/Blue hen you would get Dilute/Blue males, Pastel Males, Yellow/Blue hens and Silver hens).

But - considering I'm assuming the father is also DF Yellow - if you can pair your Yellow hen (the mother) who is /Blue with a Normal/Blue male or a Blue male, you could get some Blue hens - any blue bodied males would also be Pastel.

As frustrating as Genetics can be....... it always amazes me how we can just luck up and get a bird that many try to breed for for some time. Congrats on your beauty
