Neck ring color in yellow gouldians...

I've seen yellow birds with blue neck rings and white neck rings.
While they are both beautiful, I find the blue quite striking against all that yellow(and whatever head/breast color the bird happens to be).
My question is...
What makes the ring either blue or white? Are there definite genetic combinations that cause this?
Does it only show up in a white breasted dilute male, maybe?
Could someone clarify this for me?
I'd like to be able to purchase and/or produce some yellows showing this blue ring.
Thanks!
Tim

Yellowbacked Gouldians with the blue collar and bib are "Single Factor" whereas the yellows with a white or greyish collar and bib are "Double Factor". It makes a difference in some of their offspring too (depending on the colour of the hen they are paired up with).

Thanks for your response, Liz.
So it WOULD only be white breasted/ single factor yellow(dilute) males that would show the blue color...right?

Just the true Yellows I believe. I don't think it applies to the Dilute Greens. Others can correct me if I'm wrong.

The Dilute Males have it as well, but I guess the color just isn't as striking next to Dilute green as it is next to yellow

I see what you mean re the dilutes having it - but then again so do all my normal greens, male and females to some extent.

Yeah.. it's presence is dictated by the yellow gene; it will exist in the other mutations normally.

Tiffany,
Do any other yellow mutations show the blue halo or ONLY the
SF yellow/white breasted cocks?

Tim,
DF Yellows have a halo, it's just not nearly as pronounced. It ends up looking more like mother of pearl white than turquoise.
Yellow hens don't really have a halo at all.
I'm not sure if this photo helps much, but this is a DF Yellow/Blue Male..

Yes..
Genetically he is BH/OH, Lilac/White, DF Yellow/Blue... and he is one of the absolute best fathers I've got
