Here are the chicks that it seems that most think will all be normal. One is lighter. Head especially. Could this be another female OH?
Or will its colors come later....

Image

Evidentally when s/he was pitched it was purely an accident as mom and dad are seeing that that one is fed real well today :D

It sure looks a lot younger than the others. What color are the parents?

I think that baby is lighter simply because it is younger? Or at least it looks younger... :?

The dark spots coming in on the wings, and the darker head and eyes and nodules eliminate the possibility of it being yellow or silver.
I think it's just younger :/

This is the batch with 5 babies and mom and dad are new at this. Dad....
RH PB GB Mom..... OH PB GB

Even from the beginning the others were darker. Dad is not a dilute however so I would have to say that most will be normals.

I am still so confused at thsi genetics thing.....

If the dad is not dilute, then the only possibly outcome unless both are split for blue body are normals.
But I can tell you don't have blues simply from the color of the skin :)

Sex linked traits: Red Head, Black Head, Yellow body ;)

And for the next lesson.... the dread ORANGE HEAD..

:lol: :D

PS: You also will not get OH babies unless mom is split for OH.

Otherwise, they will all be RH/OH (males and females)

:)

Mom is OH. Dad I am unsure of his genetics. He was purchased at a show. He is doing much better with the foot. The eyes are open now and the little one is still lighter. Who knows! I guess time will tell.

Next on the genetics list....

Dad= RH PB GB Dilute
Mom= BH WB BB

And last but not least.....

Dad= BH PB BB
Mom= RH PB GB

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I see many fertile eggs....... now to see if they hatch and if mom and dad are good parents......

Are you sure they were all born at the same time? Look at the wings of the lighter one compared to the darker chicks. Looks like at least a weeks difference in age.

I've also noticed in a clutch of 5 that I had, there were variations in darkness. They all turned out to be BH, PB, NB.

It is much smaller, and is younger. However ALL eyes are open now. I am thinking that it was the last to hatch. It may turn darker but the others seemed darker from the beginning. Again I am looking forward to new and exciting colors including my next few bunches of fertile eggs. :D

Barring unknown splits, you should get:

RH/BH Purple/White Dilute/Blue Males
RH/BH Purple/White Normal/Blue Males
RH Purple/White Yellow/Blue Hens
RH Purple/White Normal/Blue Hens

- Carol - for this particular pair I'd be interested in exchanging some eggs if you are interested. I have the BH WB N/B male and BH WB Silver Hen pair I could exchange eggs for you with to get unrelated stock to potentially pair to their offspring!

This pair, barring any unknown splits, should produce:

RH/BH PB Normal/Blue Males
BH PB Normal/Blue Hens

Also for the second pair I'd be interested in exchanging eggs.. hopefully Gary will have some good news in the next week about eggs hatching to know whether it should be attempted again. I am hopeful - I think at least 3 will hatch :)

I would like to wait and see if mom and dad have any fertile. This nest is NOT accessable to peek. Mom and dad sit tightly and plain refuse to leave the nest. Mom has never had a mate in the 4 years I have had her until now. Dad however is a true parent. He was a breeder at one time for the lady I purchased him from. She decided to concentrate on her business rather then the beauties. I will keep you posted and we will surely know within a week or so if there are any young in there. I am sure I will hear them screaming as they are in my computer room. There are only 2 pairs in here. I will be sure to update or email you when I surely know.

Then....... its off to the races with the next clutch :D

Man you have no idea how hard it is not to candle the eggs again. :?
But I don't want to do anything to distract the societies from incubating all the eggs. At least I can peak via the nestcam, and that gives me some satisfaction. I can see a difference in the shade of the shells, which I hope is the chick developing.
