Our mother zebra finch can't seem to keep her babies alive. Either the eggs don't hatch, or they die as very little babies.

Is she very young? Is she spending most of her time sitting on the eggs and keeping the young warm and fed? If she's in and out of the nest could be she's just young and hasn't figured out how to settle down to business yet.
