New Gouldian

Post by CandoAviary » Sun Nov 22, 2009 10:36 pm

I was just saying that the next bird I would be adding to my stock would be a white breast gouldian. I have only purple and lilac breast.
Not a single white...... well I saw this chick today and could not believe my eyes. This is an offspring from a RH PB GB pair. The military couple who sold them to me said that they had had chicks before...many times and they always looked like the parents. So I was expecting RH PB GB chicks. I swear I have a white....then I started noticing some strange light blue feathers...... and then I thought... is this normal or do I have yet another strange gouldian. I have 10 more chicks from the same parents but none are showing any color. This one was singing today...So a boy.
Opinions from gouldian breeders please. Is this what RH WB GB chicks look like? In the pictures it is hard to see the blue feathers under the neck.

Looks like a white breast to me :D =D>

I have two white breast males and they are my favorite. One of them currently has 5 babies so I'm hoping for some more whites. Here is my male with the 5 babies :D

Natalie,
He is soooo pretty. I do see they have that bright blue on the neck area.... I have been searching the web for pics of white breast. I guess if you don't have them, especially never had a chick color out with a white breast you just don't really notice. LOL I just can't believe this normal pair turned out to both be /white breast. I wonder how many of the chicks will get the WB...exciting :D

Natalie that bird is gorgeous. For some reason orange head white breasts are always so striking to me!

And good luck with your new adventure Candace. It sounds like you got a wonderful suprise with this chick!

He does look like he is coming in as a RH WB GB Candace. :D So far that has been the favorite colour I have owned. He should end up looking just like my Swee. =D>

Yeah =D> I have a WB. I am going to name him Gomer Pile ... well I'll be, Surprize, surprize, surprize  for those that remember that show.

Liz, I was on your site last night checking out all your WB and I also did a search for the forum members WB goulds...Swee came up and so did Spice and Sugar. They are a very attractive mutation. These gouldians cease to amaze me. Thanks for the WB family welcome :D
A few months back I was checking out prices for blue gouldians then my normal looking pair threw some....5 colored out and looks like 4 more in the nest. Then I started thinking about getting a WB and well.... From a normal lokking pair here he is.......... 10 more chicks from theis pair to still color up. (By the way this little fellow was one of the four I just finished handfeeding)
The Lord loves to give us our hearts desires :D

Thank you Renee, Yes he (and his twin brother) do have a LOT more blue than any other Green male I've ever seen or had. I wanted to enter him into the birdshow a few weeks ago, but my daughter said he would not win anything due to having so much unusual blue in his feathering. I think they are both amazingly beautiful birds to look at!

Liz, with so much blue would he be considered a Noble Blue?
http://users.skynet.be/fa398872/engoulm22.htm
Though this bird and his offspring moulted out normal greenback. Kind of like blue breast and melanistics.

I have a 2 year old with a good bit of blue in his back too. The only bird I have ever had stuck in the moult. He has a strip of purple down his chest and not one bit of color on hish head....not even the black neck band. He was 2 in October???? I will post a picture soon.

I've visited that site specifically to try and check whether the twin boys are Noble Blues? But if they are - there was no specific category for them at the birdshow. I wish I could confirm if they are Noble Blues or not :!: Maybe I'll get fresh pics of them tonight and make a separate post so as to stop hijacking this one. =D>
