Will this make a pied Zebra?

Hello

I'm new to all this and I have 2 zebies sitting on their eggs, which should hatch anyday now.

The dad in a normal zebie and mum is pure white. Will this make the pied mutation? just curious.

Hello!

You will never know what to get when you have zebbies :)
Somethimes mutations jumps over generations, and you can get a completly different zebbie out of these two..

But The chicks can also be just normals or just white or normal grey pied..
Its easy to guess..

Good luck!

I agree, it's difficult to tell what the chicks will be. If the parents are not visually pied (other than a white pied), it's possible the chicks will not be pied either. Good luck - we're all waiting to see what hatches out for you!

hi
unless you know the parentage of your zebras it will be hard to tell what the outcome will be.normally if the parentage is correct if you pair a normal male with a normal female the outcome is reversed you get 50% of each like 50%normal females and 50% normal males......but if you pair a normal male with a white female you would expect to get 50% white males and 50%normal females and usually it always happens in this way whatever the parent male is the females born take on the fathers colour.the reason why you get pieds ..unless you know the parentage is usually purely by accident

ken :D

Pied is a recessive mutation meaning that both parents have to carry the pied gene in order for it to manifest itself in the chicks. It's a good possibility that your white hen is a carrier since some Solid Whites are actually birds that are entirely pied but if the Normal Gray male doesn't carry the gene as well, no pieds.

As Kenny mentioned if you don't know the parental history of your birds and since Zebras are renowned for carrying hidden splits, it's hard to guess just exactly what you'll get. But to me that's the fun thing about Zebras.
