2 of 10. Juliette. Normal grey or ??

Post by soloisok » Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:22 am

This is Juliette.
She is 6 months and is one of our quieter, more timid birds.
She is one of mom's four that I refer to as normal greys but I've never really been positive. The greys are father, mother, son & daughter. Both females look the same and like the males, to my inexperienced eye, look more buff or fawn than white on their underside.

From the picture, my guess would be Florida Silver or Recessive silver, but there are more people on here that are better at recognizing mutations than I am. I know this hen is not a normal grey, but that is all I can say with 100% confidence.

She's very pretty! :D
ADULTS:

JUVENILES:
2 hand tame zebras- Julius & Caesar

I keep doubting the silvers varieties though because ours don't look anything like this:

http://www.efinch.com/species/rszeb.htm

There's no white, but a lot of a soft (but definite) tan color on the underside, in the tail bars, etc.

I would say silver or split floridan fancy! http://efinch.com/species/ffzeb.htm (see the male split, picture nr. 2)

..or maybe Isabel, I am not much good with these two mutations.

At least this is no normal grey.

And very beautiful!

She appears to be a Single Factor Florida Fancy also known as Florida Silver. Florida Fancy is the American equivalent to Isabel, which is predominately found in Europe. Our flock has produced a fair amount that looked just like her. Very pretty birds, pair up well with any other Florida Fancy variant.

Actually our avatar (Keoke) is the male version of the same mutation

Thank you all, this has been a great education for me.
It's amusing to learn that mom's four original birds are all Florida Silvers and then I went and bought an unrelated, crested Florida Silver, not having a clue they were all the same. It's good though because the four that mom has left of her original flock had been all completely inbred for generations. My crested will bring new blood to the stock in addition to others I'll purchase for the same purpose. Mom's four are TINY, I assume because of all the inbreeding.

We would love to. Believe me, nothing makes us happier than knowing our guys are going to a good home, so we would gladly give you one (or more) of our little girls (or boys)
