Simple and Quick eggfood recipe

Post by lovemyfinch » Wed Aug 03, 2011 7:48 am

For those like me that have a hard time finding the time to make up a huge recipe, I thought I would share my quick and simple one.

5 eggs
1tsp of either cod liver oil or wheat germ oil.

Mix together in a microwaveable dish and nuke for 3 to 3 1/2 min.
Let cool (I usually take this time to take my shower  )
Break up pieces and run them through the food processor.
Return to the dish and add:
1/4 of Orlux Exotic Finch dry Eggfood or whichever you prefer.
1 tbsp of crushed eggshells (I usually have a large supply of eggshells already crushed, and upon measuring the 5 eggshells measured out this way 8) )
Add 1/2 cup of fine cornmeal
Add 1/2 cup of soaked seed
I then add the vitamins or probiotics of the day.

Mix together by hand and serve. All of my birdies love this, and if it is set in a flat dish will dry out nicely and not spoil. Although very rarely do I come back to any leftovers.

Birds that are nesting or feeding babies will receive a second helping as soon as I get home from work.
This recipe is only good for 2 days here, but at least I am positive that it is fresh at all times.
I started doing it this way, because with the high heat and humidity this summer it is basically impossible to even dream of boiling eggs in the house. #-o

Janine are the 5 eggs boiled or raw when you nuke them? I am looking for a bread, dried out form of eggfood that is not moist and can spoil if left out longer than 2 hrs.

Thank you Liz...I am also going to try using a good cornbread mix and some grated veggies in a mix to see how it works out. The whole boiled eggs thing has me a little spooked in the warmer/humid weather.

Cindy, they are raw when I nuke them. I find that by doing it this way a lot of the moisture evaporates and that way it is easier to chop them in the food processor. I also add their veggies directly into the mix. That way those that want to act liked spoiled teeenagers and not eat their veggies, at least get a bit out of the deal
