My first eggfood recipe - what do you think?

I made a very small batch since it was my first time.

One boiled egg - mashed
Egg shell (dried in the microwave) - crushed
Vitamins (I used Breeder's Blend)
Powdered cuttlebone
Miracle Meal
Dry Egg Food- mashed as small as I could
Herb Salad

Mix all of the above and serve!

My birds were eating before I left the room.

I do think I will leave the Herb Salad out next time because they can't really pick and choose what they need.

My birds are laying infertile eggs for the first time so I wanted to give them the best "boost" I could.

Anything I should do differently?

That's a good starting recipe. I feed a lot of finches so my eggfood involves a dozen eggs in the food processor and I add a variety of veggies, a little handfeeding formula, and some insectivore dried eggfood. I use the pulse for about 3 seconds each time until it is a crumbly mixture. Then, refrigerate/serve!

Thanks Deborah!

I hadn't thought about the handfeeding formula! I'm going to keep tweaking it. I think next time I'm going to add sprouted seeds and veggies. I'm also going to do a larger batch and try freezing part of it.

I am DEFINITELY going to be purchasing a small food processor. Grinding the cuttlebone isn't that hard but the egg food and egg shells are time consuming!

That's a nice mixture.
I would leave the eggshell and cuttlebone in a dish in the cage rather then add it to the eggfood so they can pick at it anytime they want, herb salad also in a separate dish.
My eggfood is just hard boiled eggs that I run through a garlic press, then I add handfeeding formula to dry it out a bit.
Plain egg:

With handfeeding formula:

To grind up harder items like egg shell and cuttlebone, you might want to try a coffee grinder.
Best of luck

I do the same Debbie except I use a courser nestling food instead of handfeeding food. Both are great additives because the dried eggfoods have all the necessary vitamins a baby bird needs :D
