Egg food 50 lb bag

Post by Snow finch » Sat Dec 21, 2013 3:18 am

I was at a country store today and I was walking by the poultry section. I noticed that they have a wide variety of chick feed that is very hi in protein and calcium. I was wondering if any body has ever used any of these products for finches. All I know is that I go through quite a large amount of egg food every month. It would be nice to add something like this to my egg food it was pretty cheap and you could buy it up to 50 lb bags. Any body have any thoughts or ideahs ?

There are many breeders that use chick starter, just be sure to get the un-medicated one.

I tend to rotate through dry components of my egg food - mostly because I can't determine which is "best". :) Unmedicated chick starter is one of the rotations and I like it very much. It's actually a little higher in protein than some of the products we buy for our finches - and really, really inexpensive by comparison.

Unmedicated game bird starter is another option. If the crumbles are a little large, you can put them in the blender/food processor to grind them down smaller. As the others have said, just make sure you get the unmedicated kind.
