Summer concerto featuring Beaker Canary :)

Although they are technically passerines, canaries tend to be managed uniquely, so here is a forum just for them!

Summer concerto featuring Beaker Canary :)

Post by Beaker'sMom » Tue Jul 09, 2013 12:22 am

Now that the air sac mites are being treated and the summer molt is finished, Beaker has been singing her (his?) heart out all day, every day. What do you guys think? Is it more likely that my hen is a boy? Either way, we are really enjoying our sweet little bird. :D

I couldn't get the link to play continuously - to tell if what I was hearing was a true tour. To me it sounded like some of my more vocal hens. If the song gets louder, more pronounced, with a distinct repertoire of metallic sounds (bells, flutes, rolls and steel notes), then I would definitely say a male.
Could also be a young male just developing his song, or a non-songbred canary, that will never have a loud song. Had all my canaries sang quietly, I'd probably still have a lot more canaries. :D Bob

Thank you, Debbie and Bob! :D
Bob--I'm sorry the video was stubborn. Beaker's song is definitely very soft and undeveloped. He/she is still under a year old so I suppose I'll just have to wait for an egg or a more robust song to determine the sex. For now, I'm going with girl. 8)

I'm leaning towards a precious, talented, girl! :)
